While the 2026 SUN ‘n FUN Fly-In has come and gone, the excitement and energy from this year’s Legends of the Sky Dinner & Fundraiser are still very much in the air.
We are so grateful to everyone who joined us for what turned out to be another unforgettable evening. Year after year, this community shows up with generosity, enthusiasm, and heart — and 2026 was no exception. Thanks to the incredible support of our guests, sponsors, and donors, this year’s event raised $43,000, bringing the Double M Foundation’s total contribution to the Lakeland Aero Club to over $157,000.
Every dollar raised goes directly toward funding paid internships at the Lakeland Aero Club, giving local students hands-on experience in aircraft restoration, maintenance, and flight. These interships are life-changing opportunities shaping the next generation of aviators. We can’t wait to introduce you to this year’s interns and share their stories in the months ahead. In fact, if you missed our most recent Internship Spotlight, we encourage you to check out the story of Jeff Sawyer. He’s a driven young technician who completed his internship at the Lakeland Aero Club and is now working toward his Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license. Jeff’s journey is a perfect example of the impact your support makes possible.
Once again, we were blown away by the incredible atmosphere that filled the evening. Guests enjoyed front-row seats to the airshow, a delicious catered dinner, live music, and our always-exciting raffle and giveaways, all while supporting a cause that truly matters. With each passing year, what began as a casual hangar gathering among friends continues to grow into one of aviation’s most meaningful evenings of celebration and community.
